ROAR – Homemade T-Rex Costume

I like to go big for halloween…and being over 21 I also like to go comfy instead of variation of sexy.

Things that are crucial when your thinking of a Halloween costume in Colorado:

  • Comfy
  • Warm
  • Unique

Colorado Halloweens are around freezing and without a doubt Halloween weekend is the first snow of the season. You want to dress warm, but also want a cute costume.

This past year my halloween costume was a comfy T-Rex. It was a no sew project and received the highest compliment you can get on a home made costume, “Where did you buy that?!” Yessss I crafted this from my own hands and quirky ideas! Thank you! I also helped my coworker craft the same costume so we could match. It was a ton of fun and very simple!

Materials:

  • Foam Pad
  • Scale pattern fabric (2 Yards)
  • Yellow accent fabric (1 Yard)
  • Green hoodie
  • Six pack box
  • white foam board
  • pillow batting
  • old boots
  • hot glue gun and a TON of glue sticks

Steps:

  • Cut large piece of scale material to cover the head, back, and tail of costume.
  • The six pack box will be the head. Cover the head with batting to contour and make the head shape. Glue the  scale fabric over the head.T-Rex costume head
  • Glue strip of scale fabric down the back if the hoodie.
  • Stuff batting and glue tail seam as you go.

  • Cut a row of foam teeth and glue to the head, us left over teeth for claws and foot claws, additionally make two eyes using the same foam.
  • Cover the boots with left over scale fabric and glue foam claws to them.

I’d say this is by far one of the coolest / funniest costumes I have seen in a while. All i can say is you are rather good at this 🙂 Good step by step as well!

Hi Cara, I got the scale fabric at Joann’s Fabric. They actually had a pretty good selection of scales in different kinds of fabric.
